Equine-Assisted Services
Karina offers equine-assisted services in partnership with the herd in northwest Tucson. Her ground-based, trauma-informed approach focuses on nervous system regulation, relational healing, somatic awareness, integration, nervous system education. As highly attuned and responsive animals, horses can support co-regulation and embodied awareness in ways that feel grounding and empowering.
Equine-assisted therapy is highly effective for trauma recovery. Horses, through their natural attunement and responsiveness, help regulate the human nervous system in real time. Their sensitivity to presence, energy, and emotional congruence creates opportunities for healing and increased self-awareness, self-confidence, and grounded self-leadership.
For individuals recovering from trauma, this work can help develop a felt sense of safety within the body. Through direct, ground-based interaction with the horse, clients often build stronger boundaries, increase self-trust, develop clearer communication, and grow in confidence.
A foundational element of Karina’s approach is relational integrity. Interactions are respectful, consistent, and non-coercive. Horses are honored as active participants in the process, and their boundaries are respected at all times. This models mutual consent and healthy relationship dynamics in a tangible, embodied way.
Equine assisted therapy serves as a supportive addition to ongoing therapy, helping deepen nervous system regulation and enhance the therapeutic process. Her services are offered in alignment with the work clients may already be doing with Emily. While equine-assisted therapy stands on its own, it can also align well with other therapeutic work. This approach supports regulation, insight, and integration.
Karina’s work is informed by lived experience. After experiencing a traumatic brain injury and severe PTSD, she found healing within the safety of a herd — including a beloved mustang named Epona. That experience shapes the depth, authenticity, and lived insight she brings to this work.
